CFL Cold Cathode
Most fluorescent light bulbs use hot cathode, or 'arc', discharge technology. A small subset of fluorescent bulbs uses cold cathode or 'glow' discharge technology. The cold cathode CFLs in this category have several advantages including double the rated life of standard CFLs, immediate start-up, fully dimmable, and, these bulbs can be flashed on/off for marquee installations. However, cold cathode is not as efficient as standard CFLs. Use these bulbs primarily for special applications.
